Grid questions, also called matrix questions, have been one of our top customer requests around screener improvements—so we’re excited to announce that grid questions are now available in UI! Grid questions allow you to combine multiple questions into a single grid view. They’re especially useful in cases where you’re asking participants many related questions with the same answer scale, such as asking about a series of products you want them to rate, or questions around customer experience or satisfaction.
Consolidating these multiple subtopics into a single grid question allows for a more concise screener survey—faster for researchers to build, and easier for participants to answer. The grid format reduces the cognitive load for the survey taker, often improving clarity around the questions being asked, and helping them move more quickly through your screener.
Creating a grid question is easy—in the screener builder, you’ll have the option to select “Pick Any - Grid” or “Pick One - Grid” from the question type dropdown. To set up your qualification logic, simply click on the cells within the grid.
You can also use grid questions to set your survey skip logic by clicking the “Edit skip logic” at the bottom of the page. From the dropdowns, you’ll be able to choose from all the rows you’ve created to set the skip logic for each question. When you’re ready, you can preview your questions by clicking “Preview screener” at the bottom of the page.
