view moreFirst, apply to a study! The researcher will review applications and select participants for the study. If you’re selected, you’ll receive a scheduling email allowing you to confirm a date and time to participate. Once confirmed, you’ll receive information about the session’s location. In-person studies are most commonly at a company’s office, but may also be at an offsite location like a coffee shop or at your home or workplace.
The most important part of an in-person study is giving yourself plenty of time to get to the location, park, and get to the designated meeting spot before your session. Promptness is key! You’ll want to attend the session alone (unless otherwise specified), in appropriate attire, and be prepared with any deliverables the researcher may have specified in their instructions.
Interviews are typically a conversation between you and a researcher. The researcher may ask you general questions about a topic, show you designs or a prototype and ask for feedback, or have you test their website or app while they observe you. Interviews are perfect for participants who enjoy communicating with others and sharing their opinions and experience.
