view moreFirst, apply to a study! The researcher will review applications and select participants for the study. If you’re selected, you’ll receive a scheduling email allowing you to confirm a date and time to participate. Once confirmed, you’ll receive information about the session’s location. In-person studies are most commonly at a company’s office, but may also be at an offsite location like a coffee shop or at your home or workplace.
The most important part of an in-person study is giving yourself plenty of time to get to the location, park, and get to the designated meeting spot before your session. Promptness is key! You’ll want to attend the session alone (unless otherwise specified), in appropriate attire, and be prepared with any deliverables the researcher may have specified in their instructions.
Focus groups involve interacting with a small group of your peers. The research team may share a prompt and ask the group to discuss a topic, show the group a design or prototype and ask for feedback, or have the group test a product. Focus groups are great for participants who are outspoken and enjoy collaborating with others.
First, apply to a study! The researcher will review applications and select participants for the study. If you’re selected, you’ll receive a scheduling email allowing you to confirm a date and time to participate. Once confirmed, you’ll receive instructions about how to access your session.

For in-person focus groups, the researcher will give you a location and directions to help you get to the session. You can always message your researcher if you have questions or need assistance!
You’ll see the incentive type and amount before applying to a study. The incentive will be paid out within 10 business days (usually much sooner) once you’ve successfully participated in and completed your session.
