Who are we?
We are a team of researchers at Tufts University who are passionate about using science to understand the benefits of living with pets!
Why are we doing this research?
The Teen & Dog Study is exploring the role of pet dogs in supporting teenagers! We want to learn more about how pet dogs can help teenagers cope with the social challenges of daily life.
What will we ask you to do?
To know if you are a good fit for our study, we will send you a link to complete a screening survey to determine your eligibility for the study. Your teen will need to be with you to complete this screener.
Eligible parent-teenager pairs will be asked to complete one 15-25-minute survey a year.
These surveys will happen once a year for four years for both the parent and the teen. Participants can complete the survey either online or over the phone. You will be compensated after each survey is completed.
We'll send you a reminder when it's time for your next survey!
Will I receive compensation?
You will not receive compensation for completing the screener.
Eligible, parent-teenager pairs will each receive a $20 for each completed survey (up to $80 total over the four years) to your choice of Amazon or Walmart. You will receive the gift card within 10 days after completing each survey.
Parents will also be asked to complete a brief survey about their dog’s behavior after their first survey is completed. For completion of that survey, parents will receive a $5 gift card and a summary of their pet dog’s temperament and behavior.
Participating parent-youth dyads may also be asked to participate in other study activities for additional compensation.
Will my responses be kept confidential?
The information and data we collect will be kept confidential.
The researcher may follow up via message, email, or phone to confirm if you're a fit for the study. Be sure to answer!
